Miami-Dade (FL) Fire Rescue Employees Placed on Administrative Duty After Training Death

Three Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) employees are on administrative duty as the department investigates the June training accident that resulted in the death of a firefighter’s son.

The incident, which occurred in Virginia Gardens on June 21, led to the hospitalization of 28-year-old Fabian Camero, who later died from his injuries, CBS Miami reports.

MDFR confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and declined to disclose the identities or roles of the employees involved.

It was reported earlier this month that the training exercise at the site on Northwest 36th Street was not authorized by the department. Camero, a certified EMT but not an MDFR employee, was participating in the exercise for reasons that are still under investigation, CBS Miami reports.

The owner of the building where the incident occurred said the department had permission for a “non-destructive” training exercise, which is also under review.

The incident has prompted a multi-department investigation, with public records and incident reports still being requested by media outlets.
