Mattoon, IL Motel Fire

RBD News – On the afternoon of June 20th, 2019, Mattoon Fire was alerted to a possible structure fire on Rt. 45 at the Motel 6. 

Upon arrival, FD confirmed a working fire. Charleston Fire, Lincoln Fire, and Mitchell-Jerden EMS also responded to the scene to assist. Per witnesses on scene, an air conditioner is reported to be blamed for this fire. 

One person was treated for burns while trying to put the fire out prior to the arrival of the FD. One firefighter was transported from the scene for heat exhaustion, the injuries to the firefighter didn’t seem to be life threatening. 

The official cause of the fire is not known. A dog was found to be deceased in one of the rooms. No other injuries were reported from the scene.
