Female Firefighters Gain Hands-On Experience at Illinois Fire Service Institute Training Event

The Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI) hosted a training event with the Fire Service Women of Illinois this weekend in Champaign, offering female firefighters hands-on experience in various aspects of firefighting.

The event offered three tracks: officer training, basic firefighting, or auto extraction, WCIA reports.

“Our goal is to provide training and networking opportunities for female firefighters throughout the state of Illinois,” Christie Lynch, President of Fire Service Women of Illinois told WCIA. The training was funded by a grant from the Office of the State Fire Marshall and brought together women from across the state.

Highlighting the importance of female representation in the field, Lynch said, “Only 8% of the fire service is made up of women. Being able to provide an opportunity where women can come together is really important.” Visit WCIA for more.
