This is a structural collapse refresher course that focuses on rules of thumb and practical knowledge for rescue teams. The objective is to further educate firefighters, tech rescue teams, and USAR teams about structural collapse from an engineer’s perspective.

The course focuses less on theoretical information and more on rules of thumb and hard-won knowledge that isn’t covered in the books. Instead of showing you how to build another shoring tower, this course is directed more on where you might want to shore, how much load you should be thinking about, and whether you even want to shore. The discussion centers on what is less hazardous and what types of buildings are more hazardous based on the cause of the collapse and the construction type.
