
Education focused on training from the Captain position

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue – Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Officer Development Academy Class #38 focused on the Captain’s position.
During the inside portion of this course, there were numerous lectures focusing on topics such as leadership, training, crew resource management, employee conflict resolution, buddy to boss, and how to build a crew. There was also a ‘Panel’ set up for open discussion with senior officers.

There were field trips that dealt with protection systems such as AC units, fire pumps, standpipes and alarm panels.
FirefighterNation: Effective Company-Level Drills
Candidates were taught how to develop, design and implement meaningful training. They went through a gamut of scenarios including, but not limited to, live fire evolutions, extrication, dive calls, MCIs, gas leaks, fire alarms etc.
In these scenarios, the candidates were not only able to make first arriving tactical decisions but they were also put in the Command position where they were responsible to orchestrate the call in its entirety.
