Active Shooter Response for the First-Due Company

Instructor: Mark Litwinko, Captain, Fort Wayne (IN) Fire Department

This course provides the principles of the rescue task force and tactical emergency casualty care to better respond to high-threat active assailant incidents. Current evolution of these events shows the need for responders to continue to adapt strategy and tactics to safely and efficiently mitigate these incidents. The evidence-based content delivered will be consistent with current best practices and guidelines from the Department of Homeland Security, NFPA 3000, and the Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care. Students will be provided the tools, skills, and information needed for continued training at their own agencies. Attendees will leave with instructional knowledge of evidence-based medicine specific to high-threat incidents and the basic framework for implementing a rescue task force response. This highly interactive course will provide structured instructor-led curriculum combined with ample hands-on skills including interior building movement with SWAT cover, bleeding control, and victim removal evolutions in both classroom and scenario-based settings in a large event stadium environment.
