INDEPENDENCE, Kentucky – FOX 19 reports that Independence firefighters rescued a woman found inside a burning storage unit on Monday.

Firefighters responded to Cherokee Storage at approximately 1:55 a.m.

The location was the site of a previous fire six months ago.

Firefighters saw heavy fire at the rear of the building and made an interior attack. During firefighting they heard calls for help from someone inside.

“Visibility was near zero due to heavy smoke and heat inside was extremely elevated,” a fire department spokesperson told FOX 19. “The victim was quickly located and found to be incapacitated and losing consciousness.”

Covington Fire EMS transported the woman to a hospital where she was listed in serious condition.

No other victims were found.

The cause of the fire was not reported.
