ROCK COUNTY, Wisconsin — Four fire departments in Rock County will be able to improve their response times thanks to a new partnership centered around technology.

WIFR reports that the city of Beloit, Town of Beloit, and the Janesville and Milton fire departments will begins using automatic vehicle locator technology to dispatch the closest unit to an emergency.

No matter whose response area, officials say the technology will be used daily for EMS calls, fire alarms, and accidents.

Town of Beloit Fire Chief gene Wright told WIFR that the technology places the four fire departments on the same page and basically makes them all one large department.

Fire officials say that plans are to partner with other agencies in the county and expand the technology and service.
