WA Town Votes to Accommodate Unvaccinated Firefighters

On Tuesday, the Moses Lake City Council Voted 4-3 approve accommodations for its 33 employees.

According to a report from KXLY, Moses Lake (WA) Fire Department (MLFD) firefighters with vaccine exemptions will be able to get back on duty.

On Tuesday, the union that represents MLFD members, Moses Lake Firefighters IAFF Local 1258, reported that the City Council voted 4-3 to approve accommodations for its 33 employees.

Last week, the IAFF Local 1258 said eight members had asked for exemptions. Five eventually withdrew their names from consideration, while three left the department.

Local 1258 said the vote means that those who left the department can return to duty if they are willing to meet accommodations agreed on by the city and the IAFF Local 1258.

It’s unclear of what those accommodations will eventually mean. The union said there could be testing prior to the start of a shift, PPE requirements in and out of the station, and separate eating and sleeping quarters.
