ST. CROIX COUNTY, Wisconsin — KTSP reports that a firefighter assisting with a collision on the Cedar Lake Speedway racetrack died after a damaged bus from an earlier crash rolled onto him.

The incident occurred on Friday evening according to the St. Croix Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities tell KTSP that Edward A. Nicholson, a member of the safety crew, was assisting with clearing the track when one of the damaged buses rolled onto him.

Nicholson was extricated and despite lifesaving efforts he was later pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner.

Nicholson was a 30-year veteran at the River Falls Fire Department and worked as an EMT.
