Faced with a shortage of personnel in the wake of the state-wide mandate for emergency responders to prove they have received a COVID-19 vaccine, Effingham officials have decided not to send firefighters to respond to medical calls in the villages of Dieterich or Watson.
WCIA reports that Firefighters had responded to medical calls in those towns because EMS services had longer response times in those parts of the county. However, using unvaccinated firefighters to respond would violate the state mandate.
Dieterich Fire Protection District Chief Ross Martin said he’s hopeful the moratorium on responding to medical calls will be short-lived. For more information visit WCIA.
