LAS CRUCES – A crash on Tuesday involving three semi-trucks and an SUV left one dead, according to state police.

Daniel Quintana, 37, of Las Cruces died at the scene after his semi-truck was struck by two other semi-trucks at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20.

New Mexico State Police said the incident began when an SUV blew a tire while traveling west on I-10 near mile marker 105. As the SUV came to a stop in the right lane, Quintana’s semi-truck collided with the SUV. Quintana’s semi-truck overturned onto its side and was struck by two more semi-trucks traveling westbound.

No other drivers or passengers, including a 13-year-old, were injured. Alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor, according to state police. All three semi-truck drivers were wearing seat belts, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
