New York’s Public Employee Safety and Health Bureau has closed an investigation into the death of a firefighter in March at the New York State Academy of Fire Science, finding no safety violations contributed to the death.

Firefighter Peyton L.S. Morse, 21, suffered a medical emergency while wearing breathing apparatus during a training exercise at the academy in Montour Falls. The death was ruled the result of natural causes.

Watertown Fire Chief Matthew Timerman told the Watertown Daily Times he’s frustrated and angry about the investigation. A state police inquiry into the death is ongoing.
