A Ramsey County Judge temporarily blocked St. Paul’s mandate requiring all city employees to either get vaccinated against COVID-19, siding temporarily at least with unions representing firefighters and police officers.

St. Paul’s mandate was set to go into effect at the start of the new year and give employees until Jan. 14 to show proof of vaccination. The unions argued that the issue had to be negotiated. The city argues that it does not, KARE reports.

The judge in the case scheduled the next hearing for Jan. 19.
