The North Carolina forest service announced fire crews on Friday completely contained the 1,050-acre Pilot Mountain fire after a week-long battle.

They have also identified the cause of the fire as a campfire that campers lit outside the approved fire zone in the Pilot Mountain state park.

Firefighters made use of drones in the fire to identify hotspots and assist in igniting prescribed burns from the air.
