NYC Vaccine Clash Escalates: 26 Stations Closed, City Charges Sickout

The dispute between New York City firefighters and the city escalated over the weekend, the New York Post reports. The city temporarily closed 26 stations due to staff shortages that some ejected officials blamed on the city’s mandate that firefighters show proof of a COVID-19 vaccine or stay home.

The city charged the firefighters with conducting a sickout. The firefighters union, meanwhile, denied that its members were conducting a sickout. They closures are, however, a preview of what’s to come when the vaccine mandate enforcement starts on Monday, based on the union’s expectations that more than 40% of firefighters are unvaccinated.

As of Monday firefighters will have to show they are vaccinated or be sent home. For more, visit the New York Post.
