HOUSTON (Houston Chronicle) – A sizable smoke cloud was seen Tuesday afternoon as Houston Fire Department fought a 2-alarm blaze at an apartment complex in the Museum District.
The fire was first reported just after 2:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Blodgett.
Senior Capt. Ruy Lozano with the Houston Fire Department told reporters at the scene that the fire likely began in the parking garage attached to the five-story mid-rise apartment complex, called the Hampstead.
Vehicles in that garage were damaged by fire and many units have been damaged by smoke, Lozano said.
At least one resident was transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation and one firefighter was treated at the scene.
Arson investigators will work to determine the exact cause of the fire and from where it started.
Houstonians were sharing photos of the smoke from all points around the downtown area on social media as it created a very large presence in the sky.
