Georgia Firefighter Dies During Off-Duty Recreational Dive

Fire Chief Dwayne Jamison said firefighters recovered the victim, an off-duty Gwinnett County firefighter later identified by the coroner as Robert Fernandez.

WHITE, Georgia – The body of a Georgia firefighter missing during a recreational SCUBA dive was recovered on Saturday at a popular diving destination.

11ALIVE reports that the Bartow County Fire Department was called to Kraken Springs, near White, Georgia, to search for a diver who checked in but did not check out.

Fire Chief Dwayne Jamison said firefighters recovered the victim, an off-duty Gwinnett County firefighter later identified by the coroner as Robert Fernandez.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

It has not been reported if Fernandez was diving alone.
