Firefighters in Virginia Mayday Recovering

All are expected to make full recoveries and return to duty

BEDFORD COUNTY, Virginia – The Bedford Fire Department provided an update to WSET on the house fire and mayday on Saturday, May 2.

Fire officials said that all firefighters injured in the incident have been released from the hospitals and are at home recovering.

All are expected to make full recoveries and return to duty.

The investigation into the cause of the fire and the reasons for the mayday is ongoing.

The Bedford County Fire Marshal’s Office has requested assistance from the Lynchburg Fire Marshal’s Office to maintain an objective view and ensure all details are investigated impartially.

The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide assistance.

Lynchburg’s Fire Marshall Thomas Goode said that the fire was accidental in nature and caused by an overloaded circuit.
