Jarrod Wardwell – The Hour, Norwalk, Conn.
Dec. 7—NORWALK — Multiple boats were damaged after a fire at the South Norwalk Boat Club Friday night, according to the city Fire Department.
Crews responded to a fire at the boat club’s dock shortly before 11 p.m. and found a 40-foot boat engulfed in flames, which quickly spread to a neighboring, smaller vessel due to the wind, Norwalk Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan Maggio said in a news release.
The fire and heat also damaged other boats docked in the area, the release said.
Maggio said firefighters tamed the fire “quickly,” and there were no injuries or environmental impacts. The Norwalk Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire, according to the release.
Maggio said 38 firefighters from three engines, two ladder trucks, a rescue company and three fire boats responded from Norwalk, Noroton in Darien, and Stamford — extra manpower needed because of the likelihood of personnel falling into the water and the fire spreading rapidly.

He said the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also responded in case of environmental impacts from the firefighting or a fuel spill.
