Fire Engulfs Grand Rapids (MI) Commercial Building, Firefighter Injured

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Investigators are looking for the cause of a fire on Sunday, Feb. 24, which caused significant damage to a commercial building.

A Grand Rapids firefighter was treated for an injury.

The fire was reported at 8:26 p.m. at 2301 S. Division Ave., near Baylis Street SW.

Upon arrival, firefighters found flames showing through windows, with heavy smoke billowing. Firefighters had to take a defensive stance after the roof started to collapse.

Battalion Chief Mark Fankhauser said firefighters did a “phenomenal job” in containing the fire to the structure. Firefighters used three aerial trucks to attack the fire.

He said that the fire caused significant damage to the structure and contents. The cause is under investigation.
