Columbus (OH) Firefighter Recovering From Fire Station Hammer Attack

A Columbus firefighter is recovering after being struck in the face with a hammer during an unusual attack at Fire Station 20 in East Columbus.

The incident occurred around midnight when a homeless man, later identified as Antoine Mitchell, knocked on the back door of the station on East 5th Avenue, WBNS reports.

When the firefighter looked out the door’s window to investigate, Mitchell allegedly threw a hammer, hitting her in the face.

Steve Stein, president of the Columbus Firefighters Union, shared photos of the aftermath. The injured firefighter received medical attention and is now recovering.

Mitchell has been charged with assault on an emergency service responder and was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
