Canadian Firefighter Collapses, Dies during Forest Fire

ROBERVAL, Quebec — A firefighter died Sunday after he collapsed while on the scene of a forest fire in the area of Chibougamau, Quebec according to the Montreal Gazette.

The Gazette reports that Régis Tremblay, 61, was at the fire when he said he did not feel well and collapsed.  Efforts to revive Tremblay were immediately begun and he was transported to a hospital in Roberval where he was later pronounced dead.

Gérard Lacasse, an official with the Société de protection des forêts contre le feu told the Gazette that this season was Tremblay’s 30th with the organization.

Lacasse said it is too early to tell what caused Tremblay’s death.
