The U.S. Fire Administration has announced the official on-duty death of Assistant Chief William “Billy” Shaffer, 53, of Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Company #2 on Wednesday, July 14, 2021.

On Wednesday, July 14, 2021, Shaffer responded to a vehicle fire. While at the scene, he was found unresponsive by other first responders. He was immediately treated and was rushed to the RWJ Somerset Hospital where he passed away.
