De Havilland Aircraft Relaunches the Classic Water Bomber

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada has launched its DHC-515 water bombers, which begin production this year.

The DHC-515 Firefighter will build on the history of the iconic Canadair CL-215 and CL-415 aircraft, which have been a critical part of European and North American aerial firefighting fleets for over 50 years, the company said.

The new version of the aircraft features new targeting and and a variety of water drop options, as well as reduced emissions.

The plane can refill in just 12 seconds from any lake, river, or sea and has the advantage of not needing to stop to refill before returning to action.

The Canadair CL-215 line, launched in the 1960s, has passed through the hands of several owners before De Havilland bought it in 2016 and announced plans to bring it back to life in 2019.
