Two Rescued from Atlanta House Fire

Two people, including a hearing-impaired man, were safe after being rescued by firefighters from a house fire in Atlanta’s Virginia-Highland neighborhood Friday morning.

The two-alarm blaze started in the basement of the three-story house on Crestridge Drive and spread to the first and second floors before being contained, said battalion Chief Sean Johnson of the Atlanta Fire Department.

Crews were working on the electrical system in the basement when the fire started, Johnson said. The fire was relatively small but created a lot of smoke, he said.

One of the two occupants rescued was found in a bedroom on the second floor. Johnson said the man is hearing-impaired and was not aware of the fire. He suffered some smoke inhalation but was treated at the scene and refused to go to the hospital.

The other occupant, a woman, also did not go to the hospital.

The house had minimal damage, Johnson said.
