Maine Officials Order Firefighters to Stand Down Over Outdated Gear

LIMINGTON, (NEWS CENTER Maine) – The town of Limington’s fire department has been ordered to stand down because of equipment problems.

A message from town leaders released Sunday by York County Sheriff, Bill King, says town leaders have found outdated fire equipment was being used by the department.

According to the Limington municipal officers, firefighter gear such as jackets, pants and helmets over ten years old were still in service. The officers say that’s a violation of a National Fire Protection Association standard.

They also say they’ve taken steps to make sure mutual aid responses will cover Limington while the fire department works to meet standards.
