IAFF Supports the Nomination of R. Alexander Acosta for U.S. Secretary of Labor

Washington, DC – International Association of Fire Fighters General President Harold A. Schaitberger issued this statement supporting the nomination of R. Alexander Acosta as the next United States Secretary of Labor.

“The IAFF had an opportunity to work with Alexander Acosta on a number of issues when he served as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights under President George W. Bush and we always found him to be fair, reasonable and accessible.

“His long and distinguished career in law and government service make him a strong candidate to serve as our country’s next Labor Secretary.

“The IAFF will be supporting Mr. Acosta’s nomination and will voice our support to members of the Senate HELPS Committee and, ultimately, to the full Senate.

“We look forward to working with him and his team as he assumes the reigns at Labor.”

The IAFF is the nation’s largest union of fire fighters and the leading advocate in North America for the safety and training of fire fighters and paramedics. The IAFF represents 303,000 professional fire fighters and paramedics across North America.
