Chief Costello passed away from a heart attack
related to COVID-19

The U.S. Fire Administration has announced the official on-duty death of Chief Robert Costello, 62, of the Buckeye Fire-Medical Rescue Department on April 8, 2021.

Fire Chief Robert Costello, while on-duty, attended fire department and city council meetings with individuals with known cases of COVID-19. He subsequently contracted the virus and passed away from a heart attack stemming from the disease on Thursday, April 8, 2021.

Fatality status is provisional and may change as USFA contacts State Fire Marshals to verify fatality incident information.
