Proud to Wear Pink

DELTONA, Fla. – Today marks the day that the Deltona Fire Department joins fire departments through-out the country in the “Proud to Wear Pink” campaign to show support and bring awareness to breast cancer. Deltona Fire Fighters will wear the pink uniform tee shirts while on duty for the entire month of October marking the third year of their participation in the program.

Chief Robert Staples of Deltona stated “I think it is a great effort between the city and the Deltona Professional Firefighters to partner in showing we care about breast cancer awareness. The image of firefighters wearing bright pink t-shirts certainly draws attention to the issue “. The citizens of Deltona have taken notice of their fire fighters often telling them how proud they are of their participation in such an important issue. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure reports that one woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes and one woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes in the United States. October is consider to be Breast Cancer Awareness month and is supported by many organizations including the American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and the International Association of Fire Fighters just to name a few.

Since its inception more than 25 years ago, the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month organization has been at the forefront of promoting awareness of breast cancer issues and has evolved along with the national dialogue on breast cancer. The Deltona Fire Fighters pink tee shirts are available by contacting the Deltona Fire Fighters Foundation at www.deltonafirefightersfoundation.org.  For additional information regarding breast cancer please visit www.nbcam.org, www.komen.org or www.cancer.org.
