The Denver Fire Department is issuing lightweight gear to its firefighters.
The new gear is designed to reduce heat stress firefighters experience during calls, 9 News reports. In addition, the gear has no PFAS added to it and will afford wearers a greater range of flexibility.
The new PPE will be used for incidents such as car crashes and wildfires. Firefighters will still rely on their bulkier gear for structure fires.
Denver Fire officials note that the department has been working to acquire this updated gear for about six months and now has enough to outfit all of its firefighters.
