Cancer Causes New Procedures for Colorado Firefighters

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (WesternSlopeNow.com/KREX) – With cancer as the leading cause of death for firefighters, more fire stations are implementing hazmat procedures in order to save lives.

Captain Brian Cherveny of the Grand Junction Fire Department was diagnosed with cancer December 2, 2016.

According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, firefighters face a 9% increase in cancer diagnoses and a 14% increase in cancer related deaths, compared to the general population in the United States.
