California Firefighters Add 15 Names to Fallen Firefighter Memorial

Two firefighters with Inland ties who died from job-related illnesses will be honored today when their names are added to the California Firefighters Memorial in Sacramento.

The names of San Bernardino city firefighter Norman Edward Walters and Los Angeles County firefighter Darrell Glen Rice, a Corona resident, will join the names of more than 1,250 other firefighters.

Today’s ceremony will honor 15 firefighters.

Walters began his career as a volunteer firefighter in Apple Valley. He died in 2013, shortly after being diagnosed with job-related colon cancer, according to a news release from the nonprofit California Fire Foundation, which is organizing the event.

Rice began his 22-year career in 1992. He was a member of the Swift Water Rescue Team and the Urban Search and Rescue Team. He died this year from job-related cancer, the release said.
