Wiring Blamed in Massachusetts Condo Fire

SUTTON – A fire Saturday that damaged the interiors of two condominiums may have been sparked by electrical wiring near a door sill, according to firefighters.

The blaze at Forest Edge at Sutton apparently started in the unit at 138 Ariel Circle, said Sutton Fire Lt. Jeffrey A. Wilson. That unit was so damaged it will need to be torn down, he said.

An adjoining unit at 136 Ariel Circle was damaged by water, smoke and the efforts of firefighters to battle the fire, Lt. Wilson said.

The state fire marshal’s office determined the possible cause of the fire, according to Lt. Wilson.

The fire was reported at 8:32 a.m. Saturday and burned so hot at one point that it damaged siding at a third condominium unit, at 140 Ariel Circle. Lt. Wilson said one Sutton firefighter was treated at the scene for exhaustion. A second Sutton firefighter suffering exhaustion was taken by ambulance to a Worcester hospital, where he was treated and released.

Four people were displaced by the fire.

Firefighters from Millbury, Grafton, Northbridge, Auburn, Douglas and Leicester assisted Sutton firefighters.
