WILLOW, Alaska — A Willow firefighter died early Sunday while preparing to respond to a fire according to KTUU.

Willow Fire Department firefighter Roger Delongchamp, 66, was in a fire engine preparing to respond when he reportedly lost consciousness.

Fellow firefighters began performing CPR on Delongchamp until he was declared dead, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy ordered state flags to be lowered on the day of Delongchamp’s memorial service.

A date and details for the service have not yet been announced.
