A funeral is being held Friday for fallen Baltimore City Fire Capt. Dillon J. Rinaldo. Rinaldo’s funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen.
Rinaldo and fellow firefighter Rodney Pitts III died from injuries sustained in an Oct. 19 blaze in the 5200 block of Linden Heights Avenue in Woodmere in Northwest Baltimore. The fire department said Rinaldo was hurt while rendering aid to Pitts as the blaze consumed four rowhouses.
Rinaldo was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center with serious burn injuries and remained in critical but stable condition for the first few days — during which the fire department said Rinaldo was expected to have a lengthy hospital stay.
But Rinaldo died Oct. 25, officials said, less than a week after the six-year veteran of the department was hospitalized.
Pitts, who grew up in the city, had been in active service as a firefighter and EMT since August and was stationed in Park Heights on Engine 29. Thousands attended Pitts’ funeral last week.
Firefighters Seth Robbins, a 17-year veteran, Keith Brooks II, a 14-year veteran, and Tavon Marshall, a three-year veteran, were injured in the fire.
