Lauderhill paramedics pleaded with a judge not to release a suspect accused of shooting at a department fire truck.
At a bail hearing for 41-year-old Jermaine Shennett, paramedics described the moment that he began shooting at their vehicle with no provocation.
Lauderhill Fire Rescue Engine No. 30 left Station No. 110 to answer a call at Cypress Grove Apartments Friday at about 4 p.m. As the engine raced up Northwest 19th Street, the driver said he saw a man point a gun at the truck and fire six to seven times. One of the bullets hit the radiator.
Police arrested Shennett and charged him with aggravated assault on a firefighter and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon
The Miami Herald reports the man has a lengthy criminal history, including a case of trespassing at a fire station.
Ultimately, the judge in the case set bond at $150,000, but said the Shennett was legally entitled to bail.
