The U.S. Fire Administration has announced the official on-duty death of Lieutenant David Eric Hill, 39, of Lubbock Fire Rescue on January 11, 2020.

On Saturday, January 11, 2020, Lieutenant David Hill and another firefighter responded to the scene of a vehicle crash on the northbound lanes of Interstate 27 in Lubbock, Texas. While working at the scene, Lieutenant Hill, the firefighter, and a police officer were hit by a passing vehicle. Lieutenant Hill and the firefighter were immediately transported to the hospital where Lieutenant Hill passed away from the injuries he sustained. The other firefighter is listed in critical condition. The police officer died at the scene.
