Shreveport firefighter contracted COVID-19

The U.S. Fire Administration has announced the official on-duty death of Firefighter Leonard L. Coney, 41, of the Shreveport Fire Department on January 6, 2021.

Firefighter Leonard L. Coney treated and transported a COVID-19 patient on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 and another COVID-19 patient on Friday, December 25, 2020. He subsequently contracted the virus and passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

To date, five firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2021. Year-to-date and annual USFA firefighter fatality reports are posted online at https://www.usfa.fema.gov/data/statistics/ff_fatality_reports.html

Fatality status is provisional and may change as USFA contacts State Fire Marshals to verify fatality incident information.
