USFA: Illinois On-Duty Death

The U.S. Fire Administration has announced the official on-duty death of Firefighter Lawrence Matthews, 35, of the Dolton Village Fire Department on June 10, 2017.

While operating at a residential trailer home fire and working on the exterior to protect nearby exposures, Firefighter Lawrence Matthews fell ill and collapsed. Matthews was immediately attended to by fellow responders and rushed

To date, 48 firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2017.  Year-to-date and annual USFA firefighter fatality reports are posted online at https://www.usfa.fema.gov/data/statistics/ff_fatality_reports.html

 

Fatality status is provisional and may change as USFA contacts State Fire Marshals to verify fatality incident information.
