Two Maydays as Grill Sparks Fast-Moving Manassas (VA) Townhouse Fire

A fast-moving fire Sunday in a Manassas townhouse kept firefighters scrambling as it jumped from unit to unit.

The fire broke out in the 12300 block of Malvern Way at about 3 p.m. Sunday.

Twice, firefighters working in townhouses adjacent to the unit that was the source of the fire had to call maydays when they got trapped as fire extended into those units as well, the Daily Voice reports.

One firefighter was transported to the hospital with injuries. Seven adults and seven children were left homeless by the fire, which damaged four units in all.

Signs point to a grill as the cause of the fire.
