
Fire engine crashed while returning to the firehouse

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa – Two senior firefighters from the Fire Bureau Division of the Department of Public Safety were killed and two other firefighters were seriously injured when the fire engine they were in crashed at a sharp curve while returning to the firehouse.
Samoa News reports that the crash occurred on Thursday at approximately 6:00 a.m.
The firefighters were returning to their firehouse after responding to a fire in Afono.
A source told the Samoa News that the crash is allegedly attributed to brake problems.
Firefighters pumped water out of the fire engine to make it light before returning to the firehouse.
The crash occurred as the fire engine was heading down the road. The driver allegedly tried to out on the brakes to slow the fire engine down in the area of a sharp curve in the road.
One firefighter was pronounced dead at the scene. Another died at the hospital.
