Two firefighters fell through a hole in the floor while battling a house fire, but both escaped serious injury.
Firefighters from the Town of Dennis responded to the fire on Route 28 in West Dennis around 10:14 a.m. Monday, NBC 10 reports.
Deputy Fire Chief Tony Kent was on his hands and knees about five feet inside the house testing the floor for soundness when a hole opened up and he dropped into the basement.
A mayday was called and firefighters were able to access the basement through a bulkhead. A second firefighter also slipped into the hole, but was caught in a tangle of wires that prevented him from completely falling through. He was able to extricate himself.
Both firefighters suffered only minor injuries in the incident.
