Twenty Ambulances Respond to Coventry (RI) Rehab Facility Fire, 24 Patients Transported

A fire Thursday night on the third floor of a Coventry rehab center on Tiogue Avenue sent 24 patients to the hospital and displaced 40 more.

The Respiratory and Rehabilitation Center of Rhode Island is the state’s only respiratory rehabilitation center, with 150 patients at the center at the time of the fire.

Sprinklers helped contain the fire, which firefighters managed to confine to the room of origin, but smoke spread much further through the facility. Twenty ambulances were required to transport all those hurt by the smoky fire.
