WASHINGTON (ABC7) – Three residents were injured, one critically, when a fire broke out in a Northeast DC residential duplex early Sunday morning.
A two-year-old boy was tossed from a second-story window and a 14-year-old girl jumped from the window. They both have non-life-threatening injuries, according to DC Fire and EMS.
An adult was taken to a hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries. One firefighter was also injured.
The family’s dog escaped and ran away, but was later found and is being cared for by a neighbor.
Investigators say the fire in the 400 block of Madison St NE was caused by an electrical surge protector under a couch.
Eight people were displaced. The American Red Cross in the National Capital Region responded to the scene to assist.
