The brothers, and others, oversee various charity efforts such as blood drives, scholarships, and getting surplus fire equipment to departments in need.

Brian Farrell told Newsday that over the past decade the fund has given $3.5 million to first responders and their families and $4.7 million in equipment.

Tim is survived by his wife Alice and his siblings Brian, Dennis, Kevin, and Kieran.

A funeral is planned for 9:30 Saturday at St. Francis De Chantal Roman Catholic Church in Wantagh with burial to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale.
