Fire destroyed a home in Merrimac Sunday and sent three firefighters to the hospital for medical attention.
The fire at the Skunk Road home started around 2:15 p.m. and posed several problems.
The flames were already over the roof by the time firefighters arrived. The fire threatened nearby power lines and other homes until firefighters were able to contain it.
Heat and a shortage of available volunteers caused more challenges, as firefighters from a total of 13 towns and cities assisted at the scene, which went to three alarms.
The firefighters injured are expected to be OK.
The Merrimac Fire Department received on-scene assistance from the Amesbury, Newburyport, Groveland, West Newbury, East Kingston, Georgetown, Salisbury, Haverhill, Rowley, Methuen, Newton (NH) and Plaistow (NH) Fire Departments.
