A simmering quarrel between two firefighters on Mauston’s fire department has led to one firefighter’s 30-day suspension.
The case dates back to 2021 when one firefighter, Jordan Wilke, who works for the town, was labelled a mole for being close to one of the town’s fire commissioners and the town administrator.
The label irritated Wilke who said he would burn the person who called him that if he found out who it was, WKBT reports. That was taken as a threat by a second firefighter, Nate Brown, and fueled a level of distrust between them.
The dispute simmered with the one man refusing to answer a call with the other, an exchange of words at a local restaurant and one telling the other to stay off his land.
The dispute came to a head with an insubordination accusation against Brown, and a hearing by the town’s fire commission, which gave him a 30-day suspension.
