NORTH ZULCH, Texas — A Texas fire department and community members stepped up to save Christmas for the son of a volunteer firefighter.

KBTX reports that the North Zulch Volunteer Fire Department, along with several members of the community, provided Christmas gifts for young Jeremiah Alewine.

Jeremiah’s mother, a member of the fire department, were killed a few weeks earlier in a vehicle accident.

On Christmas morning North Zulch firefighters showed up with presents to surprise Jeremiah.

“We will never fill the void, but we can help mend the void,” said North Zulch Volunteer Fire Chief Tony Clay.
