Tesla Was On Autopilot When it Crashed Into Contra Costa Fire Truck

Tesla reported to federal transportation regulators that February’s fatal crash on Interstate 680 involving one of its cars and a fire truck occurred while the car’s auto assist driving system was engaged.

The Feb. 18 crash involved a Tesla Model S and a ladder truck from the Contra Costa County fire department in Walnut Creek. The fire truck was on scene of an automobile accident when the Tesla ran into it.

The driver of the Tesla was killed in the crash. Four firefighters suffered injuries in the accident.
